A rare Part Two topic is animals. If you are asked to describe an animal and you haven’t prepared a description in advance, it can be difficult to score highly, even if you are a good speaker of English. The key is to know how to describe the different body parts of the animal. Below is an example.

Describe an animal that lives in the wild in your country.

You should say:

1. What it looks like

2. What its habits are

3. How it interacts with people

4. And explain why you like/dislike it.

Brainstorm:

1.

2.

3.

4.

Right There are many animals I could mention, but Ive chosen to talk about wild boars.

Ive never seen one before, but Ive heard that they look like normal pigs I mean, they have a snout, trotters, stuff like that. That said, compared to normal pigs I think theyre often massive, almost a bit frightening, and they have how can I say this? little tusks. Maybe they have dark fur, too.

In terms of its habits… I’m not really sure, um… I think they’re a little nocturnal, I mean they rest in the day and feed at night. Their natural habitat is forests… They’re omnivorous, so they eat anything – grass, nuts, berries, birds, reptiles, animal carcasses, stuff like that.

What’s next? Oh yeah… They don’t interact with people very much but sometimes they wander into villages or towns and cause problems… They tear open rubbish bags and… They can be sort of dangerous, especially if they have piglets… They’re very defensive and sometimes they attack people.

I’m not bothered about wild boars, to be honest… I mean, I’ve never seen one. The piglets are a bit cute, though.

I guess that’s everything.
